Balochistan Declares Independence from Pakistan: Claims 85% of Land Under Control of Baloch Army
A viral social media declaration posted on July 13, 2026, by activist Mir Yar Baloch has sparked widespread debate by claiming that Balochistan has broken away from Pakistan to form an independent "Republic of Balochistan".
According to the viral announcement, the self-proclaimed republic has adopted a national flag, introduced a new national anthem titled "Ma Chukain Balochani," and launched its own currency, the "Balochi Falus".
However, international observers, geopolitical analysts, and credible media outlets have clarified that these claims remain entirely unverified and lack any legal or administrative foundation.
No Loss of Sovereignty: There is no evidence that the Pakistani government has lost administrative control over the province.
The provincial government continues to hold cabinet meetings, and Pakistani security forces remain actively engaged in standard counter-insurgency operations, such as the ongoing "Operation Shaban," which was launched in early July. Absence of International Recognition: To date, no sovereign state, the United Nations, or any major international organization has recognized the "Republic of Balochistan".
Under international law, a state requires defined territorial control, a functioning government, and diplomatic recognition to achieve statehood—criteria that the current declaration does not meet. Unverified Territorial Claims: The assertion that 85% of the land is under the control of a "Baloch Army" or that a 500,000-strong force is ready to overthrow the government remains unsupported by any independent data or satellite verification.
A Recurring Pattern: Analysts have noted that similar unilateral declarations have been issued by the same activist in previous years—notably in May 2025 and May 2026—without resulting in any shift in the region's geopolitical status.
While the declaration has gained viral momentum online, experts warn that it should be viewed as a unilateral political statement rather than a change in internationally recognized borders or sovereignty.
